What to remember
- Ask exactly what qualifies as salary transfer.
- Compare savings with additional package charges.
- Read what changes if salary transfers stop.
An open account may not be enough
A salary-linked offer may require regular payroll into the lending bank. Having an account, or transferring money yourself, may not satisfy the condition. Ask how payroll is defined, when it must start and how long it must continue. Check the options if your employer cannot change the payment bank.
Compare salary and non-salary options
Some products publish separate salary-client terms; BKT’s home-loan page is one example. This does not imply an identical discount at every bank or on every product. Request two offers with matching amount, currency and term. Compare initial and follow-on rates, APR and fees. Do not apply a first-year discount to the whole loan.
Subtract package costs from the saving
Assume bank schedules show a salary option saving ALL 1,200 in first-year interest but adding an ALL 150 monthly package charge. The added yearly charge is ALL 1,800, making these two items ALL 600 more expensive for that year. Only count additional costs: if both options have the same charge, the difference is zero. Avoid counting costs already included in the repayment schedule twice.

If you change jobs or salary payments stop
Request the clause covering loss of salary eligibility: does interest, package pricing or both change, when does it happen and how are you notified? If income comes from self-employment or rent, ask for those terms. Do not choose the salary-client filter solely because it shows a lower rate.
Questions to take to the bank
Use this list when requesting your written offer.
- Does my payroll arrangement qualify?
- How long does the benefit last, and must payroll stay here?
- Which fees are additional for this offer?
- What happens to the loan if I change jobs?
Frequently asked questions
Is a monthly self-transfer enough?
Not necessarily. Ask the bank to confirm which payment types satisfy the condition.
Does payroll at the bank guarantee approval?
No. Payroll is only one condition; the bank still assesses income, commitments and other requirements.
